Background
IRCV was established in 1991 as the Council on Islamic Education (CIE). The organization played an instrumental role in improving coverage of world religions in history-social studies textbooks and materials, using guidelines for constitutionally-appropriate "teaching about" religion. The organization also published a number of teaching units and contributed to educational projects of other organizations. IRCV has consulted on international curriculum projects to improve academic and standards-based approaches to world cultures and religions.
